What is lipoma? Lipoma is a benign tumor of fat cells. They can occur anywhere where fat cells exist. Lipomas are the most common tumors of the subcutaneous tissue. They are commonly found under the skin of the back, trunk, shoulders, and arms. Lipoma occur in 1% of the population. They are usually painless and many patients don't even notice them. Lipomas are benign tumors and they don't turn malignant. They usually require no treatment at all. However if they are annoying to the patient or affecting cosmetic aspects they can be simply removed surgically as an outpatient procedure.
