Fainting, it's causes, and how to deal with it

SYNCOPE            F ainting or  Syncope is a transient loss of consciousness due to temporary cerebral ischemia ( decreased blood reaching the brain and cerebral cortex). It is most commonly due to non-cardiac causes. The patient may fall and injure himself, urinate, develop involuntary movements but does not bite his tongue( This is characteristic for fits). Feeling of dizziness or feeling faint i.e. the sensation that loss of consciousness is approaching is sometimes called "pre-syncope". Before the diagnosis of syncope is established transient cerebral ischemic attacks (TIA), epileptic seizures, attacks of petit mal epilepsy, episodes of vertigo, hypoglycemia and psychogenic causes must be excluded. Patients with seizures are not pale during the attack but develop extensive abnormal movements, usually take more than five minutes to recover and are often confused for some time after the attack.
