    Lying is a conscious phenomenon by which the person deliberately chooses not to tell the truth for some reasons in his mind.

People tell lies for so many different reasons


Why people lie?

1-Avoiding punishment:

People may lie when they had done or about to do something that is likely to get other people angry or punish them.

2- To get something:

People may also lie in order to get something they want, or to achieve some certain goal they desire.

3- Strengthening your situation:

Sometimes people may find themselves lacking strong defense why discussing certain topic or a situation. So they may lie or fabricate some facts to make them appear right and convincing.

4- Complete the plot!

A person who tells a lie is more likely to tell another and another lies in order to make his story well plotted and seems reasoning. A person is firstly hesitant at weither to tell the truth or not, but once he lied he finds little or no resistance in keeping lying and continuing into a chain of lies. The amygdala, a part of the limbic system of the brain that, produces negative emotions when a person lies to help limiting the extent of lying. Its activity is high at first and it produces strong negative emotions and the person feels bad about lying, but with subsequent lying, the amygdala's activity is much less and the person doesn't feel much bad about lying, so he continues lying much easily.


#-Spotting a liar

Lying is associated with physiological changes that occur in the autonomic nervous system resulting in instantaneous changes in some physiological parameters in the body such as blood pressure, heart rate, tremors, and sweating. Some of these changes can be detected by devices such as the polygraph, also known as "lie detector device".

In Egyptian mythology Ma'at was the goddess of truth, justice, balance, and order. According to the ancient Egyptian mythology, after death, all the derceased have to pass through the judgment hall, where the deceased person's heart is weighted against Ma'at's feather of truth. If the deceased person's heart balances the feather, he is allowed to continue to the afterlife, but if not the journey ends.
